Atari 2600 Arcade Ports Directly Off the CRT - Even More Must Haves
Atari Arcade Ports Part 3. He we go! I am playing through my Atari 2600 collection showcasing some arcade ports in this video... this time on real hardware and a real CRT TV. I'll let you know what games are worth playing and which ones you should stay away from and just play the original arcade version. There are many more arcade ports available on the 2600 and this is just scratching the surface. I lived through the days of the Atari 2600 and 70's - 80's arcades... I know what was impressive considering the hardware and what was a cheap knock off just made for a money grab.

    Is this one of those shopping channels? I'm not sure if we had them here in the 90s. Well, maybe QVC.🤔 Tell you what I'm watching at the minute. Remember, the day after? I remember hearing about it, but never seen it. I was watching a podcast yesterday and it was mentioned. I didn't realise that 100 million Americans tuned in to watch it. It was shown here, but we had our own version called, threads.

      Yup, this was a division of HSN over here. So, I don’t recall watching The Day After, but I was aware of it. I’ll look up the TV listings in the Google newspaper archives tomorrow for when it was on to see what was on the other stations. I was probably watching the A-Team or something. I do remember they were always scaring us kids about nuclear war in the 80s. I’m sure I had a few sleepless nights thinking about it back then.

We had those drills in school about hiding under your desk, or if at home you get in the doorway, lol. My grandparents still had a bomb shelter from the second world war, although it probably wouldn't have done us much good, lol. Our town was hit by the luftwaffe in WII so most houses had bomb shelters dug in the back garden's.😂

So looking up the old newspaper listings for my hometown, this ABC movie ran Sunday night opposite a US/UK mini-series called Kennedy on NBC and the TV show Alice on CBS... I definitely wouldn't have. I didn't start watching adult stuff till about 85 when my dad had me and my sister watch, a nightmare on elm Street, poltergeist, and terminator. All I remember watching before 85 were cartoons, sesame Street and fraggle rock.😂 I haven't seen threads either. I'll watch it after the day after. There is about 30 minutes left of that. I really want one of these. They are the ONLY tvs that ever had actual 720p as the native resolution. No plasma, LCD, or CRT can say that. And I own multiple of every kind. With this you can have pixel perfect Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U. SNES Classic also outputs at 720p.

      @RetroGamingNook 7 дней назад

      Right on, thanks for watching. You could find one for free eventually, but the bulbs are expensive unless you get a lucky deal like I did recently. Now, the geometry on these can be wonky and they are loud and run hot. Also the component inputs on mine have failed which sucks. So I’m just keeping it alive and using the 1 HDMI because I do love its smooth look and the speakers are killer!!! Cheers.

      Correct, you need a primary GPU. You may need a different set of drivers depending on the card model and OS (maybe not). It could take some trial and error... This game is on the Atari Game Station Pro, which I purchased at Target, last year during the early part of the fall season. It's too bad that the system doesn't have another one of Kaplan's creations, "Kaboom". Especially being that the game station pro actually has a paddle feature, alongside the joystick. Have you ever played "Demons to Diamonds"..? That's one of the games on the game station pro. It's one of my favorite 2600 games built onto the Game Station Pro. The GSP also features games from the 5200 and 7800, along with various old school arcade games. And it also actually has some NES and Sega Genesis games built into it.

      I’m looking to pick that system up as it’s been on sale lately. I have Kaboom for my real Atari, it’s a classic!

    Looks like there's some heavy hitters in here, especially considering the hardware limitations. Commando's visuals are surprisingly good even if that gameplay doesn't hold up. Thanks for sharing!

      Yeah, I can respect the graphics produce on an Atari 2600, considering the massive restrictions, but gameplay always wins out. I always appreciate you checking out my channel!

    Great stuff here! I enjoy your insights and the connection you bring to your memories of when you were a young person. I was an avid arcade game player at this time as well. I had an Atari back then and agree that most of these games you showed here did a pretty good job of bringing the arcade experience home, considering what they had to work with back than. That all changed when the colecovision came out shortly after, as I think the colecovision did a fantastic job of porting arcade games. There is a roller controller accessory for the Atari, which I have never tried out. I do have the roller controller for the colecovision and it works pretty good. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks. I was dying to get a ColecoVision, but my dad got a Color Computer.. oh well. But I was living near the malls and Service Merchandise had one set up. Played plenty of Donkey Kong and Pepper II on it.

    Simply incredible shot making apart from the silly mistakes you still played brilliant golf. Something that was missing from Mean 18 - wind

      Haha, yeah. Thanks. I think I lost about 4 strokes between both of them from mistakes. But I had a ton of fun playing both characters! If someone could hack Mean 18 someday to include wind. I bet it will happen.

    Oh man, I'd love one of these. The only plug in n play i have is Street fighter and double dragon. I defo need this one. Ms. Pacman and pac-land were my favourites. I spent many 10p pieces playing those in the 80s.

    Pac & Pal is fun because as you advance there are different power ups that resemble other games. Stage one is kinda like Galaga, then there is a smoke screen just like rally x, others too, can’t remember, but it’s fun to see what option you’ll get.

    Just an idea, get a block of wood you can rest on your lap, then put that velcro tape on it with the other velcro piece stuck underneath the joystick. Just an idea to make it more stable

      @RetroGamingNook Месяц назад

      That could work if I’m not too aggressive. I kinda wish they had put a screw threading on the bottom of plug n play games like cameras have to affix them to some sort of base.
